Zero Gravity Video Experience
MYA GUILLAUME, PATTI GRACE SMITH FELLOWSHIP
I joined the Horizon flight representing the Patti Grace Smith fellowship—a fellowship for Black Aerospace Undergrads and the Brooke Owens fellowship—a fellowship for women and gender minorities in aerospace. The goal of my project was to showcase the processes leading up to and during flight through a video blog. My YouTube video will be dropping soon, showing the full day leading up to our flight as well as many clips from flight day.
The zero gravity flight itself was a once in a lifetime experience and I have never felt so happy and proud of myself. It was truly the motivation I needed to finish off my degree and for the first time, everything I had accomplished leading up to flight day felt worth it. I learned above all that I am doing what I am meant to be doing and I hope I can continue inspiring the younger generations to follow their dreams no matter how big they seem. Anyone is capable of achieving what they put their heart into. There was a point where I had to take a step back and really realize the progress I have made as a young engineer within this industry. Accomplishing something such as flying in zero-gs is something I had always wanted to do—but I never imagined doing it, especially at the age of 20. I know my career is just taking off, but I cannot wait to see where I land.
