Biology is Not Destiny: ‘Space R&D’ project by Modestar

VIKTORIA MODESTA, MISSION: ASTROACCESS

This project is part of a long-term research to reimagine assistive technologies through application of radical design & hyper embodiment lense, highlighting the opportunities of #WhereNecessityMeetsImagination approach.

As a Mission Astro Access ambassador, Viktoria’s mission was to advance the storytelling of disability using alternative body architecture, tech wearables and fashion in zero gravity as a gateway to challenge the rigid ideology of ‘ability’ and its role in the future identity narrative.

This flight featured the first iteration of a micro gravity adapted prosthesis of a leg & additional arms, designed and created in collaboration with Alternative Limb Project & Koleman Prosthetics. The leg was fitted with an electromagnet for modular detachment and interchanging capability, all three limbs featured a vertebra-like fluid tentacle design capable of robotic function with further development.
